John is an actor by trade, best known for his Emmy-award winning work on MPTV. His one-man-shows, The Early Stories of John McGivern, Midsummer Night McGivern and John McGivern’s Home for the Holidays tell the stories of being the third born of six kids in a working-class Irish Catholic Family in the Midwest. His stories are personal and funny and touching and familiar. His themes are based in family and remind us all that as specific as we might believe our experiences are, we all share a universal human experience. This holiday season catch John in A Kodachrome Christmas.
John Gurda is a Milwaukee-born writer and historian who has been studying his hometown since 1972. In addition to his work on Around the Corner with John McGivern, he is the author of numerous books on subjects ranging from life insurance to Frank Lloyd Wright and from heavy industries to historic cemeteries. He wrote The Making of Milwaukee, which is the first feature-length history of the community written since 1948. The Emmy Award-winning TV documentary series, also called The Making of Milwaukee, premiered on MPTV in 2006.
In addition to being John’s brother, Mike McGivern is the host of FM 105.7 “The Fan” High School Sports talk shows as well as host for the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Show. He is also the co-creator and host of 105.7 FM’s Faith in the Zone.
