An evening at Camp Whitcomb/Mason

It was a great night to learn about this amazing place located in the heart of Lake Country! Guests were asked to come dressed ready to experience and explore, and that we did! On August 30, members of Team Trimble got to spend the evening  at Camp Whitcomb/Mason’s S’more Fun Event!

What is Camp Whitcomb you say? Amazingly, Camp Whitcomb/Mason has been around since 1911, but is not widely known about. It is a year-round facility currently located on the beautiful Lake Keesus.  Situated on a whopping 306 acres of hills, fields, wetlands, and forests, and provides campers with outdoor experiences in a fun and safe environment. Campers can come for a day or attend overnight camps. Either way, they learn about nature and have plenty of fun with all the outdoor recreations, all while developing leadership skills, self-worth and respect for themselves and others. The camp is one of the many programs offered by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee as they seek to provide safe places to learn and play, provide positive roles models and educational programming to help local kids and teens thrive.
We loved getting on the campground to see all the camp has to offer and also enjoy an authentic camp experience! This year’s S’more Fun event was their third annual fundraiser, with the goal for this year to raise money to help renovate the 13 cabins on-site — they were built back in 1947 complete with fireplaces and porches, and provide financial support for kids who want to attend camp. We, along with 215 other guests, enjoyed dinner and a fancy “s’more” dessert, plus the opportunity to hear more from the camp leaders and former campers, as well as tour the cabins, lodges and pavilions and see the various activity areas including a high ropes course. We were excited to learn that the year-round camp not only serves the area youth, but it is actually available to rent for corporate and private events like team-building retreats, meetings, weddings, parties, reunions, school outings, etc.  Here’s a link to learn more about all the amenities and rental information.
We hope this overview piques your interest and/or introduces you to another local gem that reinforces why we #loveandliveinlakecountry. And, if you are looking for a place to volunteer, check out all the opportunities.
