Stone Bank Farm Market | know your farmer, know your food.

I had heard of the Stone Bank Farm Market previously, but never had taken the time to stop by, only because I am walking distance to the Oconomowoc Farmer’s Market.

Well, I figured this Saturday I would head on down to support my good friend Alec and his amazing company “Fresh Roots”(www.FreshRootsWI.com & Facebook.com/FreshRootsWI), an edible landscaping business….plus I wanted to get the low down on everything he had to offer.
And guess what? He has a great offer for all the The Lake Country Mom readers! A free consultation and 20% off any services over $200, or $50 off any services over $400.
Now, let me tell you some of the benefits of his service, not only will it save you money in the long run being able to go into your backyard to get your fresh herbs, vegetables, and/or fruits, but it will look stunning as well! On top of the money savings, it’s healthier, you know exactly where your produce is coming from and can decide if you want it to be organic, all natural, and if, or what pesticides you use on it. Alec will help you get started, plan, maintain, and follow up with all of your gardening needs.

The textures that herbs can add to your garden is stunning, the aromas are beautiful and on top of that they can help deter pests and animals. (Think lemongrass for mosquitos!). I learned so much from him today… Did you know that in the Spring you can eat hostas’ early Spring shoots? His services include, but are not limited to: Raised bed install, garden maintenance and weeding (for all you busy mom’s out there), landscape design, rain barrels and irrigation, tree and shrub pruning, and compost bins.

This market was absolutely adorable, when I first walked up I was greeted by a massive turkey (I may have walked all the way around because I was a tiny bit intimidated, all I could think of was when a swan tried attacking me). I later learned he was very friendly and love to ham it up for the camera. There was also a petting pen with some little goats, that later ended up snuggling up in some people’s laps!

There was a gorgeous array of lettuces and herbs available inside the small white barn next to the old church was beautiful. And the itty bitty chickies that we pecking away in an old armoire adorned with chicken wire just added to the charm. The chicks were there with Royal Roost(www.MyRoyalRoost.com & Facebook.com/RoyalRoost22) – a company that helps you raise chickens in your backyard. But, if you aren’t sure you are ready to commit to raising chickens, they offer a service to let you try it out – “Rent-A-Roost”. They’ll deliver and set up a chicken coop, bring 2-4 chickens and all your needed supplies, plus they’ll educate you on everything you need to know to keep a healthy and happy flock. There are an array of benefits to raising chickens. Just a few of those benefits – they’re fun and friendly, plus they are easy and not very expensive to maintain.
The last vendor I had a chance to chit-chat with was Mapleton Mynd Meat & Produce (Facebook.com/MapletonMyndShropshires), suppliers of Lamb & Mutton. They sell everything from bones to seasoned sausages. After meandering about for a while outside I wandered inside to what used to be an old church. The inside was just as beautiful as the grounds it sat on. Inside the offerings were gorgeous vegetables, herbs, pastries, a lovely refrigerated section with
local products.
Finally, what I am looking forward to most at Stone Bank Farm is their Pizza Night at The Farm (Wednesdays 6/13, 7/11, 8/15, 9/12, & 10/3). You get to make your own pizza with ingredients fresh from the farm and this year they will be offering local beer, wine, and LeDuc’s frozen custard for purchase. Make sure to reserve a spot as space is limited ($25 per reservation, which includes 1 pizza).
Stone Bank Farm Market is open Thursdays-Saturdays 9am – 5pm, and Sundays 9am – 2pm.

Natasha Wertheimer

HI Guys! I’m Natasha, a lovely mommy in her 30’s. I’m in the most beautiful relationship with my boyfriend, Jason, and together we live in Oconomowoc with our two goofy goldendoodles – Honey & Softy, and my 6 year-old son, the light of my life – Reilly. I’m originally from Dubuque, Iowa, and previously lived on the East Coast for about a decade, but I am so happy to call Lake Country my home. My love of cooking, baking and food started very young with parents who loved to explore new flavors and cultures, as well as having a mom that operated a chocolate shop before I was born. In my free time I absolutely love trying and creating new recipes – mostly sweet, but love to dive into the Asian flavor profiles of the savory dishes. I also love learning about wine, enjoying the arts, practicing yoga, sipping a good cup of coffee and traveling. I fell in love with my boyfriend in the kitchen and I hope I can make you fall in love with the recipes and food knowledge I’ll be sending your way as a contributor for The Lake Country Mom. // Follow her blog, Love in An Oven // Facebook // Instagram
