Top 10 essential oils every busy mom needs • The Lake Country Mom

1) Lavender

Lavender is called the “Swiss army knife of essential oils.” When in doubt, use lavender. From birth to adulthood, lavender is a must. We love to use this super-gentle essential oil on our kiddos.

Lavender is great to diffuse for a relaxing atmosphere to help your little ones drift off for a good night’s sleep. We also apply lavender to soothe their sensitive skin and calm emotions. Lavender is my 3 1/2 year old’s favorite essential oil. Whenever she bumps a knee, she comes asking for the lavender to make everything better.

2) Thieves

Chances are, you know another mom out there who is always talking about this “thieves” stuff. Thieves essential oil is a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, and rosemary. Feel free to Google where it’s crazy name came from, but just know this stuff is amazing to protect your family!

We love to diffuse this blend in our home during the fall and winter months. I also add it to a roller bottle of carrier oil and apply it to the bottoms of our kiddos feet before they’re exposed to many things at story hour, stores, nursery, and more.

We know busy moms don’t get sick days, so it’s great that Thieves vitality oil can even be used internally. I add a few drops of this blend to a capsule and take it to support my immune system so nothing can slow me down! We never run out of this blend, it is a must to always keep on hand for life’s surprises.

3) Joy

This is the single essential oil blend that made me a believer in the power of essential oils. When I first got my oils, I will admit I thought they were just for smelling nice and nothing more. At that time I was really struggling with the transition from one child to two. I couldn’t keep up with daily chores, let alone just enjoy my kids. I decided it couldn’t hurt to try, so I gave it a go.

After three days I was back to myself again! I was energetic, at peace, and back to enjoying social activities. That was the moment I knew I had to look into oils more and start sharing with others. Joy is “essential” to any mom’s essential oil collection for those difficult seasons in life. It is a very floral blend that even smells wonderful as a perfume!

4) Purification

This blend has saved us so many times! Purification is a blend of citronella, rosemary, lemongrass, tea tree, lavindin, and myrtle essential oils. It is shockingly effective for deodorizing when kids (and pets) make their messes. I like to keep Purification in a spray bottle to refresh fabrics, car seats, and more. We have two cats and two kids in diapers…so we diffuse Purification a LOT and it makes our home smell amazing!

The oils in this blend are also beneficial for enjoying the outdoors. In the summer months we add it to a spray bottle to apply before we head outside for camping, hiking, and more. I love knowing this is a safe option to protect my young kids.

5) DiGize

DiGize, oh how we love you. This blend smells very earthy, and I openly admit when it first came I was not a fan of the scent. BUT after seeing its benefits time and time again, I never travel without this oil. DiGize vitality support a healthy digestive system, so I love to take a few drops in a capsule to keep my tummy happy and regular. For kids you can use DiGize topically massaged over their tummy or on the bottoms of the feet. Just smelling the oil from the bottle can be helpful during your first trimester or in long car rides.

6) Gentle Baby

This gentle floral blend of oils is great for both baby and mama! Starting with pregnancy, this oil is incredible to apply to your growing tummy to support healthy elasticity in your skin. It is also beneficial aromatically for emotions in kids and adults. Diffuse for a calming atmosphere, or simply hold the bottle near an upset infant to soothe the witching hour. This stuff is amazing for any new mom!

7) Frankincense

Frankincense is an essential oil that was used all throughout the Bible and is known for its spiritually uplifting benefits. It is great to diffuse during yoga or meditation to recenter and uplift the mood. Frankincense can be beneficial to drop on your newborn’s umbilical stump to promote healing. Frankincense Vitality is also shown to support healthy immune and respiratory systems, so we love to do one drop directly under the tongue during the winter months or when traveling.

8) R.C.

R.C. is one of my favorite scent profiles with three different eucalyptus and other oils. This oil blend is so uplifting when applied over the lungs and throat. It is wonderful to use before enjoying the outdoors in the spring or visiting friends with pets. R.C. can be a game changer for your high school athlete and is quickly effective when used aromatically by deeply inhaling for a minute or two.

9) Peppermint

This is the oil that will convince your man and any other skeptic! My hubby wouldn’t even try the oils for months, but one night after a spicy dinner I got him to try a few drops of Peppermint vitality in a capsule and he has been a believer ever since. Now he’s even got his own stash of essential oils, so he would stop stealing mine.

Peppermint essential oil is also a great pick-me-up in the afternoon. I will rub a drop between my hands and cup over my nose to breath in deeply. Wow, you’ll feel the power! It is so refreshing and uplifting to diffuse and even has a cooling sensation when applied to overworked muscles. We all know parenting is hard on our bodies, so apply some peppermint after a long walk around the zoo.

10) Stress Away

I prefer to keep a roller ball on the top of this bottle, so I can easily apply to my inner wrists while out running errands. Whether stuck in traffic, running late, or arguing kids in the back seat; this blend helps calm and uplift my mood. It also smells amazing and can be worn as a natural perfume. It is a blend of copaiba, lime, cedarwood, vanilla, ocotea, and lavender. Yum, yummy!
