The Barre Code Brookfield | A beautiful experience.

Writing for this blog I am privileged to get to try new things and receive invites to try out new places, such as fun classes! I was invited to come to try out The Barre Code in Brookfield, WI along with 27 other ladies that read The Lake Country Mom! We went this past week, and I was so excited, yet really nervous as I really didn’t know what to expect? I have heard of the term “barre” and have many beautiful friends that have done it, yet I have yet to be able to try.

If you look it up, it says: A barre (French pronunciation: [baʁ]) is a stationary handrail that provides support for people during various types of exercise. Barres are used extensively in ballet training and warm up exercises, where such exercises are commonly referred to as barre work. In a ballet class, barre may also refer to the part of the class that involves barre work. Barres are also used for warm up exercises in other types of dance, as well as in general fitness programs.

Ok. So I am going to use a ballet handrail for support while getting a workout. Fair enough. WRONG. It was a beautiful full body workout. Intense. I am five days post class and every single one of my muscles still hurt (in a good way.)

As we arrived we were graciously greeted by Besty, owner of both the Brookfield and Third Ward locations of The Barre Code. She made us feel so welcome, had the biggest smile, explained what to do before class started, what props to grab, and made us feel comfortable.

We took off our shoes, grabbed our props and walked into the studio. Clean, perfect lighting, great colors, surrounding by mirrors and Betsy pumped up the music and got right into it. The class was 50 minutes, and it went by so quick. I have tried my fair share of different types of workout classes from Zumba to yoga to core classes to kickboxing..this was different..I wasn’t looking at the clock hoping it was almost over. I felt strong and beautiful. I am not an athlete or even a fitness guru. I was a bit intimidated by the mirrors looking back at me at first. But then I thought, why? Why am I scared to see how I look strengthening my body? I used it as a tool to keep going, I saw my arms tone with each hold, my legs stretch as each minute passed, I saw the reflection of the other girls surround me, I thought to myself, “this is a beautiful thing.” Some poses were so hard I couldn’t believe it. We used small weights (I chose 2#) as well as ankle weights and a small exercise ball. Besides those props we used our body is ways I could have never thought of.

We did The Barre Code class: A full-body workout that consists of isometric holds and heavy repetition, working muscles to fatigue to develop muscle stamina and endurance. A range of different props are used in each class to challenge the body and engage the mind.

The Barre Code offers several types of classes in the studio, it is great to try them all to sculpt and work your whole body in different ways.
