At MainStage Academy of Dance, Artistic Director Eddy Bray’s mission is to “impact lives through the art of dance.” Although a seemingly simplistic purpose, his message has reached far beyond his dance studio. A young girl is swept into a fantasy adventure when her Christmas gift comes to life. Among the ballet’s most memorable moments is the epic battle scene between the toy soldiers, an evil mouse king, his fellow mice, and the Nutcracker. Then the Sugar Plum Fairy’s court dazzles audiences with beautiful dancers showcasing ethnic dances from around the world, including a clever Chinese Lion. The grand pas de deux with Clara and her Prince is breathtaking. Hand embellished costumes from the Republic of Moldova, along with falling snow, adds to Director Bray’s interpretation of the original Nutcracker. This production is in its sixth year. It will delight audiences of all ages.
